WILDE - Auditions
Auditions for Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde and The Importance of Being Earnest will be held November 24th and 25th beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Lincoln Community Playhouse. Actors should arrive at 7:00 p.m. and can reserve an audition night at lincolnplayhouse.com. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. People can audition for one or both plays. Callbacks, if needed, will be November 26th.
Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, by Moises Kaufman, has a cast of nine. Male identifying actors age 18 and over are encouraged to audition. Some roles will require wearing Victorian undergarments and will appear shirtless. Some roles will require intimate contact like kissing. No accents. First rehearsal is December 2nd with performances January 24 -26, February 8 & 9 in the Mainstage.
The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde, has a cast of five men (age range 20’s – 60’s) and four women (age range 20’s – 60’s). Actors age 16 and above are encouraged to audition. No accents. First rehearsal is December 9th with performances January 31- February 1 & 2, 7 & 8 in the Mainstage.
REHEARSALS are typically 7:00-10:00 p.m. weekdays until tech. There are no rehearsals over the holidays November 27-29 and December 24-January 1.
The Playhouse Wilde Festival explores the twin nature of Oscar Wilde’s life and works. Within three months of Oscar Wilde’s triumphant opening night of The Importance of Being Earnest, he was on trial for his sexuality. The Importance of Being Earnest is a comic story of two young gentlemen in London who lead double lives while Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde details the dramatic journey of Wilde’s true double life toppling him from the apex of British society to ruin.
The Importance of Being Earnest is directed by Ashley Kobza. Ashley has an MFA from The Ohio State University. Ashley has taught performance and new works courses in colleges and communities across Ohio, Illinois, and California. She has trained in commedia, improvisation, Shakespeare, and viewpoints. Ashley recently was a Director – Acting Focus for the Playhouse Penguin Project The Wizard of Oz.
Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde is directed by Fly Jamerson. Fly has an MFA from University of Arizona and is currently an adjunct instructor of theatre history at Doane University. Their work as a dramaturg, director, playwright, and/or designer has been seen in Wisconsin, Tennessee, California and New York.
