Penguin Project

What is it? The Penguin Project is a musical theatre production that casts children and young adults with disabilities in all roles. All will sing, dance and act in the show. Those individuals (Artists) will get assistance from on-stage peers (Mentors).

When are the meetings? Artists, Mentors and their families can learn more about the Penguin Project at one of our organizational meetings; 7 p.m., Thursday, February 6, OR Monday, February 10, at Lincoln Community Playhouse, 2500 S. 56th Street, in Lincoln. You need to attend only one of these meetings.

Who can participate? Artists are children and young adults (ages 10-22) with disabilities. Including (but not limited to) Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment and neurological disorders. Mentors are children and young adults (ages 10-22) who do not have disabilities. They will be matched with an artist of similar age and the two will work side-by-side.

What show are you doing? Our show this year will be Annie Jr.

When is it? The show will be June 13-15, 2014 (with possible holdover dates June 20-22). Rehearsals will start in February, once a week, and increase in frequency as the show approaches.

Where will it be? The show and all rehearsals will take place at Lincoln Community Playhouse.

How much does it cost? Participation in the show is free!

Who is running this? Lincoln Community Playhouse will be running the show. This production is part of LCP’s 68th season , and for this undertaking, we have pulled together a team of local theatre veterans and special educational professionals who will help us ensure that this is a fun, safe and memorable experience for all involved.
